Rajasthan
is a desert state located in the Northwest region of India.
It has a rich history of eccentric royal palaces and nomadic
tribes. One of the most exciting states in India, camels and
snake charmers are age-old icons of Rajasthan and still seen
today.
Colleena will be leading a group through Rajasthan on a journey
of the senses. Musical and dance traditions ranging from poor,
nomadic tribes to semi-classical will be explored. For those
students coming to study at her dance school (Shakti Studios
in Pushkar, Rajasthan) this gives a deeper study of Indian dance
within the context of the communities where the dances come
from. We will be visiting musicians and dancers in their homes,
having lessons with them and watching both private and concert
performances.
