  “Oriental Fusion Dance”: Flamenco, Indian, Arabic Fusion
With Patricia Passo of Madrid, Spain
January 28-February 9 (2 sessions of 10 Hour Workshops)

This style mixes Belly Dance techniques of classical Arabic dance, with the expression and gesture language of Indian Classical dance and the footwork of Spanish Flamenco. The feeling of Patricia’s dance is inspired by “Gypsy” dances from around the world. This course will teach the methodology of Belly Dance and fusion movements, as well as a complete choreography.

Patricia Passo, originally from Brazil, holds a Masters Degree in Anthropologic Dance. She teaches composition/choreography and didactic of academic dance in the University of Madrid as well as in her own school.

  American Tribal Belly Dance:
With Kristine Adams of San Francisco, CA (USA)
January 21-27 (10 Hour Workshop)

American Tribal Belly Dance is a wonderful combination of improvised group and soloist dance. By learning a specific vocabulary of movements, along with cues, transitions and group formations, multiple dancers are able to dance in a cohesive group with pure improvisation. After several classes you too will be able to experience the thrill of improvising with other dancers! Carolena Nericcio, founder of ATS Belly Dance and Fat Chance Belly Dance (Kristine’s teacher), has been developing this dance language throughout her life so that people from around the world would be able to meet and dance together.

Kristine has been a member of the esteemed dance company, Fat Chance Belly Dance for over 2 years and studying with Carolena Nericcio for 5 years. Kristine was raised in San Francisco, with a love and appreciation for dance she inherited from her mother, who was an Oakland Ballerina.

  Bollywood Mujra’ s and Rajasthani Dance:
Queen Harish of Jaislamer, Rajasthan
February 11- 1 Day Master Class

From the Jaisalmer nightclubbing scene comes the one and only dancing desert drag queen, performing a whirling, trance-like dance, an illusion somewhere between human and puppet, a cross dressing confusion emphasized by the warmest winks. He is a master of many styles of Rajasthani Folk dances as well as the lovely Mujra dance style from Bollywood. He will share his secrets of perfecting dramatic techniques in these 2 styles as well as a complete choreography. Bring a notebook and skirt to class.
